The Importance of Teachableness

1. For spiritual growth                     (Hebrews 5:11-14)
2. For a life of obedience                 (Matthew 11:29; Philippians 4:9; James 1:25)
3. For discerning God’s guidance      (Psalm 25:4-5)

The Hindrances to Teachableness

1. The Devil’s activity                      (2 Timothy 2:25-26)
2. Not having the Holy Spirit            (1 Cor. 2:14)
3. Being afraid to ask questions       (Mark 9:32, ALSO verses 33-34)
4. Relying on the world’s wisdom     (1 Cor. 1:19-20)
5. Unwillingness to be taught           (James 1:22-24; Psalm 81:11-12)

The Requirements for Teachableness

1. Willingness to learn
   1. Example of Jesus                      (John 5:30; 8:26-28; 15:15; Heb 5:8)
   2. Learn from God                        (Deut. 5:27)
   3. Learn from God’s representatives  (Deut. 31:12)
   4. Learn from parents                    (Proverbs 23:22-23)
2. Readiness to ask for help                      (Acts 8:30-31)
3. Readiness to pray                                (James 1:5)
4. Living by the truth already known         (2 Peter 1:5-8)
